Itinerary
- 08:30am — Departure to Roluos
Tour starts from The Blanc Residence to Roluos, an archaeological site about 13 km east of Siem Reap along NH6. It was once the seat of Hariharalaya, the first capital of the Khmer Empire north of the Tonle Sap. Among the Roluos group are some of the earliest permanent structures built by the Khmer, marking the beginning of the classical period from the late 9th century. Some were built entirely with bricks, others partially with laterite or sandstone.
The group is composed of three major temples — Bakong, Lolei and Preah Ko — along with the smaller Prasat Prei Monti. At Bakong and Lolei there are contemporary Theravada Buddhist monasteries.
- Kampong Phluk — Harbour of the Tusks
Kampong Phluk is a commune in Prasat Bakong District. The name means “Harbor of the Tusks”. The community largely depends on fishing for survival, primarily shrimp, through Cambodia’s wet season from May to October. Many houses and buildings are constructed on stilts ranging from 6 m to 9 m to accommodate the change in water level between wet and dry seasons.
During the dry season, November to April, as the river thins many turn to farming to supplement their income. Tourism, which started here around ten years ago, is a growing part of the local economy. As of 2019 the commune has 911 families and a population of 3,707, across three villages: Tnaot Kambot, Dey Krahom and Kok Kdol.
